The Rochdale EMA Team is funded by the LA’s section of the Ethnic Minority Achievement Grant. We support schools throughout Rochdale in meeting the needs of Minority Ethnic and bilingual pupils through the provision of:

  • An annual LEA wide Survey of Need;
  • Advice and support on English as an Additional Language (EAL) and bilingualism across the whole 3 – 19 age range;
  • Consultative advice and support;
  • Support for schools with small numbers of bilingual pupils though advisory visits and materials;
  • First and second language assessments.

The EMA Team supports all stages of professional development in a variety of ways.

  • EAL Hubs (for EMAG schools and schools with a small number of bilingual learners);
  • Core training – a Rochdale wide development programme running throughout the academic year;
    Bespoke training provision for schools;
  • Early Professional Development (EPD) for teachers wanting to specialise in this field;
  • An Edge Hill and EMA Team development programme, allowing teachers to gain up to 60 credits of a Masters level qualification for free via EAL work based accredited learning modules.

You can also share good practice and ask for advice using the EAL Forum provided as part of the Rochdale Schools Portal.

Rochdale Schools Portal Support
The EMA portal is regularly updated and is located here.

To access the portal you will need to be a member of staff in a Rochdale school and have a log in ID and password.   If you can’t find what you need please contact the EMA Team at Highwood.

You can also add resources to the portal by e-mailing them.
